Family books, the precursors of our poetry albums or the „like“ in the new media, came into fashion in the 16th century. When travelling, people carried the small-format booklets with them and asked new acquaintances or important personalities for a contribution to their memory. The focus of the exhibition is the artist family book of the art-interested and wealthy Wilhelm von Blanckenhagen. The nobleman set off with his family in 1808 on an educational journey lasting more than three years, that took him through Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland and to Italy. In Rome, the place of longing for artists from the north, Blanckenhagen not only acquired paintings, prints and antiquities, but also asked antiquities, but also asked German, Russian or Baltic artists for a drawing for his album. The exhibition provides an insight into the network of relationships between the artists of the Humboldt Circle.

Stammbücher, die Vorläufer unserer Poesiealben oder des »Like« in den
neuen Medien, kamen im 16. Jahrhundert in Mode. Auf Reisen führte man die kleinformatigen Büchlein mit sich und bat neue Bekanntschaften oder bedeutende Persönlichkeiten um einen Beitrag zur Erinnerung. Im Fokus der Ausstellung steht das Künstlerstammbuch des kunstinteressierten und wohlhabenden Wilhelm von Blanckenhagen. Der Adelige begab sich 1808 mit seiner Familie auf eine mehr als dreijährige Bildungsreise, die ihn über Deutschland, Frankreich, Belgien, die Niederlande und die Schweiz bis nach Italien führte. In Rom, dem Sehnsuchtsort für Künstler aus dem Norden, erwarb Blanckenhagen nicht nur Gemälde, Druckgraphik und Antiken, sondern bat auch deutsche, russische oder baltische Künstler um eine Zeichnung für sein Album. Die Ausstellung gibt einen Einblick in das Beziehungsgeflecht der Künstler des Humboldt-Kreises.
